Hey Family,
Lifes good here in Portugal and now i can say that i survuved my first transfer as a snior companion/greenie breaker/white-washing missionary. This transfer is finally over but we have no idea whats going to happen next. We figure that both of us will stay but when i talked to Elder Wilson last week after the transfer meeting he had with President, he said that transfers were 95% different than he had imagined. So that means we could be getting some interesting news. Who knows...
Anyway, this week was pretty good. We didn´t mark anyone for baptism so that was kind of depressing but we did find some new people. The only problem is that the people we have been finding start running from us soon after. Maybe they aren´t but sometimes it sure seems that way when they dont pick up their phone or answer their door. But we worked more with our members this week and they gave us some really good references. Well, one member did, our ward mission leader. He´s brazilian so that pretty much means he´s one of the coolest people ever, especially when it comes to doing missionary work. But all in all, looking back over this transfer, i feel pretty good about what we´ve done in this area. When we showed up, we had pretty much nothing to work with, but now, we´re making big baptismal goals. In fact, we told some members that fed us lunch yesterday our goal for baptisms for next month and they looked at us like we were crazy. But in my opinion, thats a good thing.
But as far as our plans go, we´re planning on marking a ton of people for baptism this week so things will be looking up.
In other news, Elder Jones came back to Portugal with his family this week to visit and showed up to our chapel yesterday. He ended his mission last transfer and ended up coming back to visit with his mom and sister. It was great seeing him again and talking about the area and stuff. He served here about a year ago and loved it (he served with Elder Silva here and they baptized like crazy). The members were all blown away when he showed up and it was funny to hear so many portuguese people trying to speak english. I took some more phots with Elder Jones and Elder Dalton so maybe if i have time i´ll send those home. But i have to say i was feeling a little trunkey seeing one of my companions with his family and also knowing that i´ll be hitting my year mark pretty soon. But i´m not focusing on it too much.
I also found out this wek that one of the member in this ward lived in Idaho Falls for a few years before becoming a member of the church. She went to the US to study in San Diego, but the family she was going to stay with moved to Idaho Falls. A little while later this member was baptized because this family introduced her to the church and she eventually moved back here to Portugal. She said the name of the family was Cox or Perry. Most of the family died in the incident of September 11th so i´m not sure if we knew them or not. But when she saw pictures of the 4th of July parade she showed here husband and kids and told thatshe played in the band in the parade. She also tried to secribe to them what a snowcone was but i´m not sure the family got it. She also kept talking about how she wanted to go back. I guess she really liek those snow cones.
Also, me and Elder Dalton showed our pictures of our families to two investigators this week and both want some puppies from Spencer and Brianna. They could make a fortune selling those puppies over here! And one of the investigators also wanted you guys to send Mikey over here too.
Oh, and Elder Wilson just called me and said that me and Elder Dalton are staying together for one more transfer here in Setúbal. Thats good because we both wanted to see the people that we´ve foudn get baptized.
But back to what i was saying...i cant believe Mikey doesnt like the thought of a jeep! That blows my mind cause i´d kill to drive that thing! I´d probably call it "Augy" though cause thats the name of the eagle mascot for Benfica! But Scarlet´s a good name too.
And yes, the Elders before us trasher our house and as far as i know that doesnt happen all too often. So i think we just got dumped on.
Well, i think thats about it for news. Thanks for all the love and prayers. Eu amo-os!
O Élder Haws
P.S. i almost forgot, i was at a members house last week and i saw that L.L. Cool J. has a new T.V. show. What´s with that?
