Welcome to My Life‏

Hey Family,

The first week of the transfer is over and we´re lucky to have survived, but we did so were doing alright. There wasn´t a single day that went by that something really strange didnt happen. Thats pretty much how my mission has been but this kind of weird stuff has never happened before.

So i´ll start with the good news. we got back in touch with José, but only momentarily. He wasn´t picking up his phone so we surprised him at his house around the time he was supposed to get home. To OUR surprise he opened the door in a towel which told us he wouldnt be able to talk to us at that moment. But he didnt seem upset to see us at all, so i guess that was a good thing. Then later in the week we talked to him on the phone and he said he was coming to church, but then he didnt. Then he didnt pick up his phone all day sunday so now we´re back where we started. But at least we know he´s still alive and living in Évora so theres still a chance we can baptize him this month.

In other good news, we saw some progress, or at least a huge miracle with another family that we found. They´re going through alot of trials right now because the mom of the family just got divorced from her husband and they had to move houses because they couldn´t afford their apartment. They have been really down latley and hadn´t talked to us in a while, but last this last Saturday we caught them at home. We started teaching them, but it wasnt long before they got a call saying that the last possible person that could help them move wasnt answering his phone. They were devistated, and explained that this was the 2nd group of people to drop out on them in two weeks. And to make matters worse, the next day was mothers day and National Workers day, or in other words, the only day in the year when no one works. Especially moving companies. They also said that they had to be out by Sunday night, so they were no longer in any mood to hear about the gospel. We were all devistated, so me and Elder Smith read some scriptures with them and then bore testimony that Heavenly Father loves their family and would help them in some way. Then, before we left, we asked if we could say a prayer and then said that we would say a prayer as soon as we got home that night so that God would bless and help them out. I offered to say the prayer before we left and in it i felt the spirit super strong as i asked that, "the right person would show up at the right time", to help the family. I didnt think much of it, but after getting home and praying, we got a call from the mom saying that someone that her mom knew showed up and offered to help move the family things to the new house. She sounded completly different on the phone and said she wanted to call us so that we wouldnt worry about them any more. I was hoping for a miracle for this family, but to be honest, i wasn´t expecting it. But when it happened i almost couldn´t believe it. It was one of the most incredible miracles i´ve witnessed on my mission. My only hope is that it will help the family open up a little more because they werent that receptive to our message at first. But hopefully this experience will have strenghtened their faith.

But now on to the strange news. After leaving that appointment, we found out we had 3 or 4 missed calls from our crazy member. when we called him back, we found out he wasn´t in a good mood. Early in the week we told him that he couldnt bring a knife to church and said that even President Torgan knew about it(we called PT and told him). It wasnt too happy about it at the time, and when he called us, we found out he waiting for us outside our house. I asked him why and he said he wasnted to talk to us. I then asked him what happened and he started venting on me over the phone about how the members are all talking bad about him and how they want him gone. He said a bunch of other stuff then said he say more when we got there. I told him he couldnt do that and finally, after a few more minutes fo conversation, finally left. We werent sure if we should have gone home right away, so we walked around a bit and called our branch president to see what we should do. But to make a long story short we went home and he wasnt there, but we were still tripping. We found out later that he does that every once in a while and that he never does anything to the missionaries, but we still felt uncomfortable about it. But tell mom not to worry, everything has been taken care of and it wont happen again. But it just goes to show that there´s never a dull week here in Évora.

I pulled out some money this week, i tried not to pull it all out but i might get close this week. Though thanks again for the extra money!

And tell Jenny thanks for her spiritual thought in her E-mail. She may have thought it was preachy, but i thought it was perfect. So thanks again!

Oh, and i almost forgot...

Our number is --- --- ---

And you guys can call at about 2 it thats ok. We still dont know when Elder Smith´s parents are going to call so we though we´d play it safe so i decided to take the late time.

Well, i better get going. Thanks for everything! Eu amo vocês!

Com amor,

Élder Haws
